Baryte on Rhodochrosite
Sequoia pit, USA
Sequoia pit, Lone Tree Mine, Buffalo Mountain District, Humboldt Co., Nevada, USA
A stunning rhodochrosite with baryte on matrix from the Sequoia pit at the Lone Tree Mine, in Humboldt Co., Nevada, USA! These rhodo specimens from the Lone Tree are quite rare on the market and have become modern-day classics in my mind. This specimen features a coverage of red-orange, botryoidal rhodochrosite with an overgrowth of clear-white baryte. The baryte crystal shows white phantoms and really accentuates the rhodochrosite beautifully. The contrast of color between the black matrix, red rhodo and the white baryte is very striking. A rare and unusual specimen from a fairly obscure U.S. locality! From my personal miniature collection.
