Smithsonite after Dolomite on Quartz
Philadelphia Mine, USA
Dolomite, Quartz, Smithsonite
Philadelphia Mine, Rush, Rush Creek District, Marion Co., Arkansas, USA
An outstanding pseudomorph of cadmian smithsonite after dolomite from the Philadelphia Mine in Rush, Marion Co., Arkansas, USA! This specimen features a group of large, sharply-formed dolomite crystals that have partially altered to a beautiful yellow smithsonite. The yellow color in the smithsonite is due to the presence of cadmium in the crystal lattice. The crystals sit perched, very aesthetically, upon a grey, drusy quartz covered matrix. Ex.
