Beryl var. Emerald
Kenticha mine, Ethiopia
Kenticha mine, Kenticha pegmatite field, Sidamo-Borana Province, Ethiopia
An outstanding 78.45 carat emerald from the new finds in the Kenticha Pegmatite Field, outside Shakiso, in the Sidamo-Borana Province of Ethiopia! The crystal is doubly-terminated and complete all around. It has a vibrant emerald green color and is quite gemmy. The crystal has complex terminal ends that have formed many steps and growth hillocks. The waxy luster is waxy and the crystals glows when backlit. This new emerald deposit was discovered in 2015, to the best of my knowledge, but it has been only recently that many specimens have hit the market. I was fortunate enough to acquire a sizeable batch of fine crystals, along with some gem rough that I’m having cut. Joe Budd photo.
