Beryl var. Emerald
Kenticha mine, Ethiopia
Kenticha mine, Kenticha pegmatite field, Sidamo-Borana Province, Ethiopia
A fantastic 71.35 carat emerald from the new finds in the Kenticha Pegmatite Field, outside of Shakiso, in the Sidamo-Borana Province of Ethiopia! This fine crystal has deep emerald green color and shows nice zoning when backlit that is quite unique to this find. It is included with needles of biotite mica and is a sharp, well-formed and nicely terminated crystal. No significant damage. This new emerald deposit was discovered in 2015, to the best of my knowledge, but it has been only recently that many specimens have hit the market. I was fortunate enough to acquire a sizeable batch of fine crystals, along with some gem rough that I’m having cut. Joe Budd photo.
