Beryl var. Emerald
Kenticha mine, Ethiopia
Kenticha mine, Kenticha pegmatite field, Sidamo-Borana Province, Ethiopia
A superb 55.25 carat emerald crystal from the new finds in the Kenticha Pegmatite Field, outside of Shakiso, in the Sidamo-Borana Province of Ethiopia! This deeply saturated, dark green crystal is doubly terminated and well formed. There is a nice gem section with outstanding color near the top terminal end and the specimen glows when backlit. There is one area of damage/contacting on the backside of the termination but it does not take away from the main display angle. This new emerald deposit was discovered in 2015, to the best of my knowledge, but it has been only recently that many specimens have hit the market. I was fortunate enough to acquire a sizeable batch of fine crystals, along with some gem rough that I’m having cut. Joe Budd photo.
