Volborthite on Dickite
Milpillas Mine, Mexico
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Mun. de Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico
A world-class volborthite specimen on a white dickite matrix from the famous Milpillas Mine, in Sonora, Mexico! This specimen features a HUGE volborthite rosette that measures 3.6cm at its maximum dimension. The volborthite is very well-developed and rests upon a matrix of snow-white dickite, which is coating a bit of matrix. The contrast between the forest-green volborthite and the white dickite is very striking and the arrangement of the volborthite upon the matrix is highly aesthetic. This is a MAJOR volborthite, and were it not for one broken blade of the rosette, it would easily be a 5-figure piece. I saw lesser specimens price much higher in Tucson. The Milpillas Mine has not produced any quality specimens in 2 years – and the volborthite was only found in one pocket in any significance, aptly named the Volborthite Pocket. The specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
